Welcome to Delightful
Welcome to my fashion & lifestyle blog. This is an accumulation of all of my delightful finds, as well as a bit about me! Hopefully you will pop back to get your daily dose of delightfulness.
According to Vogue - there’s no better way to dress your midriff than with a peplum – it’s spring’s big silhouette story. They were also shown in the 2012 Autumn Winter collections so should be around for a while yet.
What is a Peplum?
A Peplum is defined as “a short full flounce or an extension of a garment below the waist, covering the hips” and is apparently at its most flattering around 2 inches below the hip bone.
Who can wear them?
At first glance you may think – why would I want to add volume to my already wide enough bits?! This is exactly what I thought until I did a bit more research. Do beware however – not all Peplums will suit everyone, but the good thing is – it comes in different variations so there will be something for you.
Big hips/boobs - if have either of these then don’t worry, the right peplum draws attention away from these areas.
Bigger waist - perfect as the peplum creates the illusion of a drawn in waist.
No hips – don’t worry, the peplum will create them for you!
How to wear them?
Peplum dress – if you go for a dress make sure that the skirt part is pencil shape and that overall it is a nice snug fit. Killer heels too please!
Peplum top – if you go for a peplum top then don’t wear anything too billowy on bottom. Skinny jeans/trousers or a pencil skirt would work best.
Peplum skirt – whatever top you wear with your peplum skirt ideally needs to be fitted and tucked in where possible. Killer heels again.
Who does it best?
As I said, peplums have been all over the catwalks and here are a few of my favourites from Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu and Dries Van Noten – all fabulous!
If the catwalks are doing it then so, of course, are the celebrities. Here is Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton, Emma Watson in Jason Wu and Scarlett Johansson in Versace.
So what do you think? Do you already have a peplum or is it something you would not touch with a bargepole?! Hopefully this bit of advice will help you decide.
Have a lovely day and I shall be back soon
xx
