Sunday & Me

Nov. 13th

Evening all. How has your Sunday been? Nice and relaxing I hope? I have had a great one – it got off to a lazy start, but managed to pack a fair bit in, in the end.

It was a lovely sunny day in Winchester – a chill in the air, but still a lovely blue sky – just how I like it.

After eventually getting out of the house and fighting my way through the Winchester traffic – I found a parking space and legged it to Cafe Monde where I met the lovely Emily from Normality and Me for coffee.

Emily had managed to nab a table outside so we got to enjoy the sunshine whilst we chatted and gossiped - for so long incidentally, on just one coffee, that eventually we were politely asked if we would like anything else – outside tables are in high demand there!

The rest of the afternoon was spent lazing on the sofa with the husband and bunny Winston watching Fast & Furious 5 – it was total cheese, but I loved it!

Talking of Winston – time for a little update for those who are interested! He is my French Lop house bunny who is now 4 months old – it has gone so quickly! He such a little cutie pie – so loving and well behaved. This is him lying in his favourite spot on the sofa :)

What have you been up to today? Anything exciting – or just enjoying a relaxing one like me?

Have a lovely evening and I shall be back tomorrow :) xx

Heavenly Homes – Purple

Nov. 10th

Good afternoon and I hope you are all well? Did you see my Sparkly blog post yesterday - I admitted my almost unhealthy attraction to anything that sparkles! What do you have an almost unhealthy attraction to?!

It is funny how colour tastes change over time – I have never really liked purple, but more recently am starting to see it in a different light! Not sure why – times and tastes just change I guess! As I am moving house next year I need to decide on what colours I want where, so this is useful for me – and hopefully for you too?

Heavenly Homes today is all about the colour purple and how touches of such a strong colour can look fab in your home and really lift and brighten a space. For me personally I would not want to fill a room with it – less is more with such a strong colour and perhaps just one fab statement piece would be enough? That said – if purple is your prozac (see yesterdays Sparkly blog post) then just go for it – each to their own!

I came across this purple chair pic (on A Cottage in The Woods) ages ago and saved it just because its so fab – it really would be a statement piece! One of these big French style chairs was on my list of wants anyway – so perhaps a purple one is the way to go?

I really like the feminine mix of colours and patterns on this conservatory photo (seen on House to Home). I think the purple really jumps out at you and looks great with all of the other soft colours.

I am so in love with shutters! I know you need the right house to pull these off (especially in purple) but I thought they were so pretty I had to include them! When I was in Bruges last year – most of the houses and apartments had them – they just create a whole new feature I think. Seen on Daily Dream Decor.

Oooh, I love this purple sparkly door knob! Seen on Sues Wink.

How pretty are these pom pom like flowers (seen on la belle vie)?! Perhaps a vase of flowers is as far as you would want to take the purple – nice little accent either way.

Now this wardrobe (seen on Pinterest, original source unknown) certainly would be a statement! I love the style of the wardrobe, but for me I think I would want the tone of the purple to be slightly richer and darker for something this big.

Ooops – how did this shoe photo get into my Heavenly Homes post?! Hehe – they are purple and sparkly and fab so had to include them! Seen on The Berry.

Ok, back to business! This chaise longue style sofa is cool (seen on Vintage Rose Garden) and I like that the rest of the room is quite neutral. That side table is fab too – I want that!

Now pans are something I am in desperate need of! I have a load of old random ones that everything sticks to and they are actually quite ugly compared to these purple beauties! They are Le Creuset seen on Gloucester Quays.

I think baskets and any type of wicker containers are great – these ones were seen on the Purple Area. They are great for holding clutter whilst looking cool! Having the odd purple one dotted around could be nice – perhaps just one nice big purple one – I like the one on the bottom left of this pic.

This is a fab front door (seen on Moonlight Rainbow)! I did a post a while back on front doors and how I love a pretty one!

What do you think – are you a purple fan? Are there any colours that you have grown to like?

Like purple, I have recently also started to like aqua – but this (even more so than purple) needs to be done in short sharp bursts (aqua blog post coming soon). Have a lovely afternoon and I shall be back tomorrow :) xx

London & The Sanderson Hotel

Nov. 7th

Happy Monday all and I hope you had a great weekend? What did you get up to, anything exciting?

I must apologise for the blog silence over the last few days! As you may have read on the blog, after doing a wedding on Friday, I spent the rest of the weekend in London – which was a surprise trip booked for my birthday. I did not know where I was going until I got into London, but I was not disappointed!

Sanderson Hotel

We were given the postcode and arrived to discover that we had been booked into the gorgeous Sanderson Hotel, not far from Regents Street! I love the giant vase of flowers that greets you at the entrance!

The hotel is quite tucked away and is not much to look at from the outside, but it is like a hidden gem! The “landmarked 50s building has been transformed by Philippe Starck into a surreal Cocteau-like dream world, epitomizing a “new luxury” that is smart, pared down, and tempered with a healthy dose of wit and irony.”

We walked in to the lobby from the grey London street and were met with gorgeous, chic, stylish fabulousness in every direction – I was not sure where to look first! So I just went around taking pics of everything – don’t worry I won’t bore you with them all!

I really wanted to sit on this hanging seat but knowing my luck it would have came crashing to the floor!

Beautiful roses on the reception desk. I did get a few strange looks when taking a photo of these – but that is the life of a blogger (taking random photos)!

I loved this mirror hanging from the ceiling! “Starck’s visionary style mixes baroque and modern, juxtaposing Salvador Dali’s curvaceous red lips sofa with classic 60s mosaics and hand-carved African furniture with an oversized Louis XV armoire. The result blends wit, magic and surprise in an elegant balancing act of extravagance and pure simplicity.”

Asia De Cuba

After champagne and nibbles in the hotel, we all put our party frocks on, sparkled it up then got on our way to Asia De Cuba restaurant, which is in the St Martins Lane Hotel, in Covent Garden. The whole place was very cool – even the entrance lobby seen below.

I loved the gnome stools in the entrance lobby – great place to perch whilst we waited for our table.

The food was amazing – it “combines elements of Asian and Cuban cuisine served sharing-style”. The portions are huge in there and its great to pick a few different starters and mains and just share everything, which is what we did.

Asia De Cuba restaurant is “housed in a dramatically colonnaded space and Asia de Cuba’s innovative menu is matched in its surroundings by a dramatic series of soaring art columns.”  There were a variety of columns – some were covered in books, others in plants and some with framed art – they all looked fab!

Mahiki Bar

Next stop was the Mahiki Bar – a very cool cocktail bar just across the road from the Ritz. I have been here before, but love it every time and will definitely be going back! It is worth booking a table if you can – there is a minimum spend, but when there is a group of you it should not be hard to reach!

This is one of the sharer cocktails we had – that you drink straight from the coconuts! This is one of the best things about Mahiki – its all very visual – the cocktails all look fabulous and it just adds to atmosphere when you are sitting there drinking out of a giant cocktail filled treasure chest, divers helmet or coconuts!

I love the pretty colourful Mahiki menus – with pics and descriptions of all of the fabulous cocktails. This is the place to go for a proper cocktail – none of that watery tasteless rubbish you get in a lot of places!

This is my sister Katie and I enjoying one of the big sharing cocktails (Treasure Chest I think)! Not sure how many we had had by this point – a fair few judging by the look on my face! Hehe! :)

Inevitable Hangover

At the end of most good nights comes the dreaded and inevitable hangover – and this was a very good night! I must say I have felt worse, but I was not at my best and the drive back to Winchester did NOT help!

For some reason I have always suffered with quite bad hangovers which seem to get worse throughout the day instead of better! Boring!

What do you think? Anyone been to any of these places? I had a great time and apart from the hangover – hope to be doing it again soon!

Sorry again for the lack of blogging over the weekend – back to normal from now! :) xx

All photos are mine (Hence the rubbish photography!) apart from the last hangover image which was seen on All Things Bright & Beautiful.

London Trip

Nov. 4th

Afternoon all – I hope that those of you clock watching in the office are hanging in there?! Not long to go and the weekend will be here!

I am really looking forward to this weekend – the hubby and I are off to Londinium! I am quite often in London for my wedding work, shopping, meeting friends etc – so not necessarily such an exciting prospect?! It most definitely is on this occasion – thanks to my brother and sister in law, who have arranged a surprise night out (was my birthday on Monday) and hotel for us all – super excited!

I am not allowed to know anything until we arrive in London on Saturday afternoon, so cannot tell you much more! But will be reporting back on Sunday with details.

It tends to get messy when we all go out in London, so wish me luck! I get evil hangovers which get worse throughout the day instead of better, and I will no doubt be swearing that I will never drink again on Sunday… but lets cross that bridge when we come to it!

The only negative (apart from the hangover on Sunday) is that this is the first time we will be leaving bunny Winston, so a bit nervous about that as he is still young and its bonfire night on Saturday. I drive nearly an hour each way though to take him to the best luxury bunny hotel – so I know he will be happy and well looked after!

What are you getting up to? Have a fabulous one whatever it is :) xx

Heavenly Homes – Velvet Sofas

Nov. 3rd

Afternoon and I hope you are all well? I am moving house after Christmas and am starting to think about new sofas – very exciting! I have always loved and wanted a velvet sofa and think this time I am going to ignore my (small) practical side and just go for it! You only live once after all!

Heavenly Homes today is all about velvet sofas and how fabulous they can look in your home – a real statement piece and focus of a room. I have been looking at lots of different shapes and colours and here are a few of my favourites. I love this gorgeous grey one seen on Dying of Cute.

I think that velvet sofas are definitely something that look great with colour. How cool is this aqua one seen on Pink Wallpaper.

I really like the shape of this one (seen on Anthropologie) although perhaps not right the colour for my living room. Although I have not actually chosen what the colours are going to be! Knowing me – I will find THE sofa and build everything around that!

I love this pink one too (seen on Belle Maison) and think something like this would be perfect for my Delightful Office with a bigger one for the living room!

This green one is really pretty (seen on Horchow) and I love that big mirror too!

Totally love this purple one (seen on Belle Maison) which is strange as I am only lately liking purple! I want a chandelier in my living room too!

This emerald beauty (seen on Je Suis Mignonne) is another one that would be perfect for my Delightful Office!

What do you think – do you love them too?! Anyone got one? How practical are they?! Not that a negative response would stop me, hehe!

I think I may really struggle choosing – I want them all!

Have a good afternoon and I will be back tomorrow :) xx

Wonderful Words – Life is Too Short

Nov. 1st

Good morning and I hope you all had a spooky Halloween?!

I think wherever you are and whatever age you happen to be, there will always be negative people around you who make your life unhappy at certain times. But what I have realised lately is that they “make your life unhappy… if you let them!”

Life is too short to let insignificant people take one happy minute away from you and this applies to any issue you may have – negative or nasty people like mine or perhaps work problems or relationship issues etc. I know my biggest problem is that I tend to over think things and give the people/issue too much of my time – which naturally makes it all seem much worse!

Sometimes when you have things on your mind, the simplest things can sort you out – for me it was having lunch with one of my lovely and very wise friends who simply said the things I already knew – these people are not important, they do not deserve your time – absolutely right :)

It also reminds me seeing these pretty little printed reminders, which is why I wanted to share them with you. Remember – the things that worry us do not, most of the time, need to worry us quite so much as they do.

What do you think? Is the thinking about things too much bit ringing true to you?! What sorts you out when you are upset or worrying about something too much?

Have a lovely Tuesday and I shall be back soon :) xx

Delightful Places – Arundel

Oct. 31st

Afternoon all – how has your Halloween Monday been so far?

On Sunday my husband and I had a little outing to Arundela gorgeous little town in West Sussex full of antique shops, restaurants, cafes, galleries and it even has its own Castle!

One of the best things for me are the antique shops – I love just wandering around looking at all of the bits and pieces and trying to guess where they have come from and where they once lived.

As a lover of anything pretty I was in my element and not sure where to look first!

I could practically furnish my whole house and garden just from the few small shops in Arundel.

After a bit of shop wandering we stopped for lunch at Butlers Restaurant – we both had a lovely Sunday roast and built up some energy for the afternoon wanderings.

My lovely husband also bought me this beautiful antique ring for my birthday whilst we were there – I am so in love with it! It is diamonds and a very very pale green/aqua tourmaline gemstone on a gold ring – I must admit that tourmaline is not a stone I really knew that much about, but I have done a bit of research since and it sounds fabulous. The main thing though is that it looks great and sparkles away – which is perfect for the magpie in me!

I love that my birthday present is an antique and that it has a life and a story before me! I just wish I could find out exactly where it came from and who wore it… would love to know!

What do you think of Arundel – anyone else been? :) xx

Too Cute on Halloween

Oct. 31st

Happy Halloween :)

Happy Monday and Happy Halloween! I hope everyone had a great weekend and loved the extra hour in bed?! What did you all get up to – anything exciting? Apart from my Sunday trip to Arundel (more about that this afternoon) I also watched Paranormal Activity 2 last night and it was SCARY! Looking forward to seeing the third this week at the cinema!

As you know my first post of the week is always something cute to brighten up your Monday morning and today is no different – except for adding a bit of Halloween to the cuteness!

The super cute kitten pic was seen on Here Be Witches and the piglet filled pumpkin from BBC News.

So, its official… as of today I am now in my thirties! I have decided to just embrace it (!) so no more moaning from me! I will start my embracing with presents – hope my hubby has got something like this in store – I best go and find out!

Have a happy Halloween and I shall be back this afternoon :) xx

Delightful Finds – Charlene Soraia

Oct. 30th

Good morning and I hope you are all enjoying your Sunday morning? I am just catching up with a bit of blogging whilst husband is watching the Indian Grand Prix in the background. We are off shortly to Arundel, so more about that later.

I am in love with the new Charlene Soraia song, called Wherever You Will Go – you may have heard it on the new Twinings (tea) advert?

It is so beautiful – I really reccomend you just take a few minutes to listen to it. I am listening to it a lot!

Her album Moonchild is released on 21 November, but you can download this song on iTunes now if you are like me and can’t wait that long!

I have a bit of a habit of playing songs I like to death! Can’t help it – if I like a song, I want to hear it over and over! :) xx
