You may have seen the start of this new feature last week with the lovely Rebecca Doyle? This Inspirational Ladies feature is set to share some of the inspirational stories of fabulous women I know and work with – and I hope that it may also help those of you considering a change?
So, the second inspirational lady in this feature is Polly McMaster – co-founder and CEO of fabulous fashion brand The Fold. You may have seen my mention of them in last weeks Friday Favourites post? This is Polly below on the right with her co-founder Cheryl Mainland.
1 – What did you do before?
I started my career with a PhD in Virology – bit random today! Then I went into Strategy Consulting in Life Sciences, followed by a move to healthcare investing in Private Equity in the City. Then I did an MBA, which gave me the chance to think about what I really wanted to do, so I started The Fold.
2 – What do you do now?
I am now co-founder and CEO of The Fold. We are a fashion label dedicated to dressing the working woman. We design a fantastic range of dresses that see our customers through from the boardroom to drinks!
3 – What made you decide to take the jump?
I have always wanted to build something of my own and do something creative. Through The Fold I combine many things I love – the world of business, interacting with fabulous, intelligent women, and fashion.
4 – What do you love most about your new life?
I love the fact that you can make things happen, and that everything you do makes a real impact. Its up to you to get up and make the day productive. Its also fantastic to be able to surround yourself with inspirational people and build a great team to see your ideas come to life.
5 – Any regrets?!
6 – Advice for others considering a change?
You’ll learn more on this entrepreneurial journey than through anything else you’ll do (probably!) – so whatever happens to your venture it will always be worth taking the leap. You’ll be able to apply what you learn to everything you do and be a more confident person for it.
Also, build a team of mentors / advisers around you – they don’t have to be formally arranged, but just people who you can lean on for advice and support. Your friends, husband, family are probably the most important support you will need, so lean on them for advice and a friendly ear.
For more information and to view their gorgeous collection then please visit the website for details – The Fold. Their Blog also has other inspiration, ideas and articles which you may enjoy. I want every single one of these dresses!
What do you think of Polly’s story – we would love to hear your thoughts? Does it sound familiar – or does it inspire you to want to make a change? I hope that this post and the ones to come show that it can be done!
Have a lovely evening and I shall be back soon 🙂 xx
